How to turn paper receipts into a spreadsheet on your phone
· how-to, receipts, doczeno
Keeping track of expenses usually means a shoebox of faded receipts and an evening of typing. Here’s how to do it in a few minutes with DocZeno, on your phone, without uploading your receipts anywhere.
1. Scan the receipt
Open DocZeno and tap Receipt under Scan for. Hold the phone above the receipt; edges and cropping are automatic. For long receipts, keep the whole strip in the frame and avoid shadows.
2. Let DocZeno read it
After you save, DocZeno recognises the text on the device. It recognises the receipt and names it for you, for example Fresh Market Receipt 2026-09-14.
3. Check the details
Open the document menu (⋮) and choose Receipt details. You’ll see:
- the merchant;
- the date;
- the total, subtotal and tax;
- the line items.
Each one is editable. Automatic reading can misread faded print, so glance over the numbers and tap Confirm details.
4. Export to a spreadsheet
From the details screen, use Copy or export to save a CSV or JSON file, ready for Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or your accounting tool. To export many receipts at once, use the export option in Files.
Tips
- Scan receipts the day you get them, before thermal paper fades.
- Use a folder per month or per project.
- Search finds any word on any receipt, such as a shop name or an item, when you need it later.
